Bruce Thomson's Sketches
This is a sketch I did back when I was in England – about 2005, I’d guess. I found it on an old hard drive – the actual sketch is long gone. You’ll notice that the quality isn’t great – for some reason, the only image I saved was 72 dpi at 450 pixels..! I really should “archive” my work better.
I like the sketch – particularly the reflections on the nose…
Sat on at Pub terrace to draw this one – and the perspective mistakes have nothing to do with my beer consumption!! This is a tricky sketch because of the “double” downhill slant to the front corner of the building… I made the mistake of starting there and building up – if I’d been smart, I’d have started with something “static” like the horizontal lines that define the upstairs windows or something… live and learn.

Another Sketch from the Canadian Aviation and Space Museum… this a detail of the rear gunner’s “pod” at the back of the plane – the Lancaster is huge – but the positions the gunners occupied appear very cramped…
Sorry for the hiatus! I’ve been travelling with family – went to Ottawa, Quebec City and Montreal – managed to get some sketches done and I’ll be posting them daily…
This one was done at the Canadian Aviation and Space Museum in Ottawa. This is a plane that was basically hand-built in, (if I recall correctly) Owen Sound. Apparently, it was aerodynamically deficient, and was only good for short “hops”. So – not terribly efficient or purposeful – but quite beautiful.
…will be late this week as I had my sons today. I am only watching the race now (8:30pm Sunday) so the cartoon will be posted tomorrow (Monday) – I’m aiming for no later than 5 pm eastern Standard time. Sorry for the delay!
