Another Sketch from the Canadian Aviation and Space Museum… this a detail of the rear gunner’s “pod” at the back of the plane – the Lancaster is huge – but the positions the gunners occupied appear very cramped…
Sorry for the hiatus! I’ve been travelling with family – went to Ottawa, Quebec City and Montreal – managed to get some sketches done and I’ll be posting them daily…
This one was done at the Canadian Aviation and Space Museum in Ottawa. This is a plane that was basically hand-built in, (if I recall correctly) Owen Sound. Apparently, it was aerodynamically deficient, and was only good for short “hops”. So – not terribly efficient or purposeful – but quite beautiful.
…will be late this week as I had my sons today. I am only watching the race now (8:30pm Sunday) so the cartoon will be posted tomorrow (Monday) – I’m aiming for no later than 5 pm eastern Standard time. Sorry for the delay!

This wire came loose on the way home today, on the highway. I noticed the car “hesitating” and thought…hmmm – carb? but when I allowed the car to coast a little the “generator” light came on and the oil pressure dropped – so I had a pretty shrewd idea of what was going next – we took the highway as close to home as possible but as soon as we came off and the car was at a stoplight it did the expected and died. Turns out it was this wee wire which runs from a housing in front of the carb… I presume that this is a ground, and that when it came off, it shorted the alternator/generator. Cleaned the wire, but couldn’t get it back in the “clamp” so I simply unscrewed the bolt and mashed it in between the washer and the clamp – and after a couple of cranks it went again.
Amazing – I fixed the fault but I have no idea how or why… 🙂
