I’d love to see Renault come back with their yellow, black, and white livery. Somehow I think that sponsorship considerations will make this untenable. It’d be nice though, wouldn’t it?
Boats, Boracay Island
The boats in the Philippine island of Boracay are unusual for their incredibly narrow hulls and double outriggers. Main sails are stretched between two booms and sit at a jaunty elevated angle. This scene was sketched while sitting under the shady palms and sea grapes at The Coco Loco Bar in Station 3.
75 Lorong Stewart, Penang

Uniquely for Malaysia, Penang retains names and references to its colonial heritage, thus we have seen Lebuh King (King Street), Lebuh Queen, Lorong Love (Love Lane) and Lebuh Campbell amongst many others. Apparently my lot were quite busy here… even found a “Kopitiam Thomson” in Ipoh.
Drew this from a lovely little heritage-styled cafe called “The Daily Dose” on Lorong Stewart.
Old Storefronts, Penang

Sat and had a coffee this morning at a small hotel bar on Lebuh Cintra in Georgetown and sketched these old storefronts across the road. Wish I’d brought watercolours! The colours are brilliant here!
737 in Hong Kong…, No, an A333

A sketch of the plane we took from Hong Kong to Kuala Lumpur. Drawn from the window at gate 60 while drinking a remarkably expensive latte.
British Car Day?
The cars on display at British Car Day are eclectic – everything from new Minis to ancient Rolls-Royces. from Deloreans to Triumph Stags. I thought this was pushing it a bit though… 🙂 The owner had helpfully placed a sheet of paper under the windshield wiper stating that, although the car was clearly not British, it DID have Lucas electrics…
Well – what could be more British than that?
To be fair there’s a Porsche 356 that comes every year too… nice that the organizers aren’t sticklers. I think next year I’ll take my Alfa Romeo with a press-apply Union Jack on the bonnet… 😉
British Car Day 2015
Well, this took a while… British Car Day was a couple of weeks ago… oh well – better late than never. This was a lovely dark (not BRG, I don’t think) green Mg Midget. This is an earlier version with the chrome bumpers and you don’t see many of these around anymore. In lovely nick. Great day too – sunny, warm and loads and loads of cars… 🙂
More to follow. 🙂
Fiat 500, Rome
I’m a little late getting around to this sketch. This was a car I saw when I was visiting Rome last year, and it amazed me. The reason for my amazement was that it was an exceedingly beat up example that was obviously still in regular use. Where I live (in Toronto, Canada) one typically only sees these cars in one of 3 states; 1) in excellent condition, on the road during the summer, 2) in the process of restoration, or 3) rusting away on flat, powdery tyres.
It was great to see this one. I think I liked it even better than the many pristine ones I saw in Italy.
