“Powder”

A Break from cars… at least for today. This is my dog, a chocolate lab – she looks a little sad, but she practices this look as it is useful when food is in the vicinity…

Her name comes from my sons, who thought that I should name my next lab (my last had been a black lab) “gunpowder”. “Gunpowder didn’t work for her, and “cocoa powder” seemed long for a puppy, so, “Powder” she is – which kinda works, because she like snow…

2013 Malaysian GP – Alternate

2013 Malaysian Grand Prix Cartoon - Alternate

One of the problems with rushing off the cartoons as fast as I try to is that sometimes you come up with another idea as you’re doing it – as I did here. In the end I liked this one enough to think it was deserving of an “airing” so I thought I’d provide a rough sketch.

Honda CL350

Honda CL350

Based on the bike created for the English version of the movie “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo”. I started this sketch on the weekend – this is a reasonably “involved” sketch. The geometry was set up in my sketchbook, and then the actual drawing was traced from that on tracing vellum – which accepts the pencil very nicely. Elipse templates were used in order to get some semblance of accuracy in the wheels.

Toyota Sports 800

Toyota Sports 800 Bruce ThomsonBrilliant car – an 800cc, 45 HP car that topped out at (claimed) 160km/h – which in something this small would seem like warp speed. These cars were a reaction to the introduction of the first Honda production car, the S500. It’s not hard to see a “little brother” likeness to the Toyota 2000GT. I desperately want one of these (the 800) but they rarely come up for sale, and when they do, never in Canada… last 3 I’ve seen available were in Portugal, Zimbabwe and Guatemala…

1920 Maybach Spezialrennwagen

1920 Maybach Spezialrennwagen

This is a sketch that I did from a photo I took in Sinsheim Germany, at the Sinsheim Auto und Technik Museum. I thought this was a great car – all polished metal with a brass radiator, and a single cyclopean headlamp. The car was powered by chain drive to the back wheels and did what must have been a gobsmacking (at the time) 200 km/h. No seatbelts, airbags, vestigal windshield – what a machine.

Well – hardly a “concept – harkens back to my days at Ford, actually (look at that grill). Still – a Coupé for your consideration. – Cheers.
