Bruce Thomson's Sketches
This is a sketch that I did from a photo I took in Sinsheim Germany, at the Sinsheim Auto und Technik Museum. I thought this was a great car – all polished metal with a brass radiator, and a single cyclopean headlamp. The car was powered by chain drive to the back wheels and did what must have been a gobsmacking (at the time) 200 km/h. No seatbelts, airbags, vestigal windshield – what a machine.
Well – hardly a “concept – harkens back to my days at Ford, actually (look at that grill). Still – a Coupé for your consideration. – Cheers.
Quick sketch of a 917 – I may redraw this and take it through photoshop – the “Gulf Porsche” colours make it hard to resist and I’d like to try a “graphic treatment”… The sketch needs a bit of work – the wheels have turned out larger than intended and that gives this a bit of a “cartoony” look…
Lovely car, this. I did the initial sketch, but felt, somehow, that the “roughness” of the sketch didn’t flatter the car… so what you see beneath is a “toned” photoshopped version of the sketch which I think adds a little “elegance”. These cars boasted 180 hp, and, much as I want one, I think it unlikely I’ll ever get one – only 25 of this type were ever made…

A pen sketch that I did envisioning what I’d like to see from a new Jaguar Coupé – this is ballpoint pen that has been taken through photoshop for some tone.
Love the look of these cars, but they’re tricky to draw – even in side view! This is a little over-photoshopped, mostly in deference to the fact that the sketch was very light and my scanner at home isn’t great… so it’s taken some “adjustment”.
I was very fortunate to visit Nick Mason’s car collection in the Cotswolds back in 2006. An amazing collection of cars including this, Gilles Villeneuve’s 312 T3 from 1978. Sketched from a photo I took at the time.
A sketch of the Ferrari 512S as raced at le mans in 1970 – this is the Derek Bell/Ronnie Peterson SpA SEFAC Ferrari, which only made it to lap 39… Sketch is 10.5″ x 6.5″.
