My students don’t, I think, believe me that drawings, sketches, renderings, paintings etc, need planning. So – I submit – a rough. This is typical of the work I do prior to attempting a “good” sketch. I will sometimes use this as an underlay (as I did in this case) or as a plan rough…
Rolls Royce sketch

Trying to make up for lost time… here is the original sketch – almost feels as though I’ve done a post a day for the past week now – eh???
🙂
Rolls Royce Headlamp close up (see next post)

Thought it was worth posting this too – this give you an idea of the technique I used – overlayed the sketch and simply starting layering in opaque and semi-opaque brushstrokes, using , for the most part, “hard” brushes” and the odd “soft” smudge blend (especially in the grill).
Rolls Royce Headlamp

Sketched this a while back after the British car day, and thought it was an interesting subject – so I decided to give this a “photoshop paint” … took far too long on it, but am happy with the result.
Japanese Grand Prix

Japanese GP Cartoon Preview

Hi All – I’m away for the long weekend with my family. I hope that this weekend’s race will be fascinating though I can’t help but suspect that that fascination will likely focus around 3rd, 4th or 5th place – ah well – beggars can’t be choosers.
I write this to indicate that I WILL watch the race, and as ever I will offer my interpretation of things, but it will be a tad later than usual. I will endeavour to have the cartoon printed here by Midnight, (EST) Tuesday October 15th. Hope you enjoy (enjoyed!) the race!

Another sketch from this year’s British car day. This was a lovely off-white/cream 1959 bug-eye sprite.

“Minion” concept

My students were doing an “in-class sketching” project today, so I doodled this between babbling and invigilating…
