2014 Mercedes F1 concept/fantasy

…another F1 car rendering. For this one I wanted to evoke something of the 1950’s W156 and the much earlier W154, W125s; very difficult because of the great gulf of time/technology between now and then (and the fact the older cars were front-engined). Anyway, I had a lash at it and this is the result – a little more mid-90s Indycar than I would have expected but there you are.

I left sponsorship off this as I wanted it to be a “Silver Arrow” – not a “Petronas Silver Arrow” – and hey – Mercedes should be able to get by without the sponsorship, no? After all – they don’t have to pay Ross Brawn anymore… 😉

Another retro/futurist photoshop bodge-job. This is based loosely on the 2013 Lotus. I altered the shape to be a little less “noisy” and altered the graphics to reflect something more of the classic Lotus 97T/98T (1985/1986). As usual, got a little carried away – this was supposed to be a bit more “painterly” (if one can append that phrase to photoshop?) but still, am quite happy with the result. Note that the mirrors have been lowered to an unacceptable degree – I figured that neither Romain or Pastor have ever shown much of a predilection for them, so I could flout this a little. 😉

I’ve been thinking about doing this for a while – I like the nature of the subject because it is a little more abstract in flavour than what I usually do, in as much as the subject is “closed up” on, showing a detail rather than the whole car and background which would be my usual approach. Worked this up in Photoshop, working off a 2013 Ferrari. This would never pass today’s rules, obviously – the wheelbase has been shortened considerably, the nose dropped, the overall height of the car lowered… I suppose that this is sort of a blend between the 2013 Ferrari F138 and the 1988 Ferrari F1/88. I had originally intended to do something a little more futuristic, but was perhaps looking a little too much at the 1988 model car…
